“Make sure your business and decisions are in line with your morals as a human being. If you always make decisions within your moral compass, you know one thing will remain true-- you will always be proud of your work.” - Tammy Bauer

Business Visit | Blue Wave Martial Arts & Fitness Edwardsville
--
Fast paced fitness classes, top notch personal training, and traditional martial arts instructions are just a few of the services offered by Tammy Bauer and her team at Blue Wave Martial Arts & Fitness. This week, CEO was able to meet Tammy (Owner & Head Fitness & Martial Arts Instructor), receive a crash course in self-defense and hear her incredible story.
--
20 years ago, if you had told Tammy that she would have been owner of a fitness/martial arts business and would have asked her to stand up in front of a group of 20 people to speak, she would have said you were off your rocker.
--
Following college, Tammy had a successful career in the IT world. After years in this position, she decided the corporate world wasn’t where she wanted the rest of her career path to go. Around the same time, Tammy’s young son was enrolled in a martial arts class. The instructor convinced Tammy to get off the sideline and join in training with her son…her passion for martial arts and what it could do for her mind, body and spirit, was ignited.
--
Taking a huge leap of faith, Tammy and her husband left their steady IT jobs, downsized homes and threw everything they had into Tammy launching her business. Tammy’s top priority in establishing Blue Wave was to create a family friendly environment that felt like home and fostered learning in every person that walked through the door.
--
Tammy’s life and business experience are extensive. In addition to figuring out how to run a business and balance a drastically new home life with her family, Tammy had to battle a brain condition (Chiari Malformation) and subsequent brain surgery! Her perseverance, mental and physical strength and success she attributes to the support of her family and her martial arts training.
--
While we could write 100 lessons that Tammy shared, a few highlights are listed below:
--
⭐ If you do not understand something, seek out help! It is worth paying someone to do something if you are not an expert in that given area.

⭐ Interactions with your clients and customers are of the utmost importance. Everyone has bad days…you have to realize that one bad interaction can have a ripple effect in ways you may not even know. Do everything you can to build and strengthen your relationships.

⭐ The integrity of your product is most important. Do not rush to expand and sacrifice the integrity of what you offer.

⭐Success is rooted in passion. Whatever you do, connect yourself in a passionate way to what you are doing.
--
Tammy, a huge thank you for welcoming us this morning, for the defense training and the fantastic discussion. We were honored to hear your story and look forward to having you on board as a program mentor this year!
