Business visit | MasterCars Co Inc
--
“All the while, life events were leading me to where I am today, and I had no idea.”
--
Edwardsville CEO had the pleasure of meeting with father-son team Alex and Gary Rosenberger, owners of MasterCars Co Inc. Together, they have over 70 years of experience in the auto and motorcycle industry! They founded MasterCars with the vision of bringing quality, late model, upscale vehicles and motorcycles to the St. Louis Metro East area for a good value with a friendly, low pressure atmosphere.
--
Growing up with a father in the car industry, Alex was always interested in cars, however, even throughout his collegiate career, he always thought “I want to own my own business, but it won’t be selling cars.” After getting a communications degree from Mizzou and finding a job in banking that “paid the bills,” Alex started selling cars as a side hustle on top of his regular 9-5. This side hustle turned into something that he didn’t expect he would ever do…launching an independent car dealership with his father (enter MasterCars).
--
After launching this business, a little thing called the Internet started to take off. Alex knew that MasterCars had to get ahead of the curve. He went back to junior college and learned how to build a website, then began selling cars on Ebay. After some time went by, he was finally able to leave his 9-5 and run his business full time.

The Rosenberger’s’ story is one of true entrepreneurship. Success doesn’t happen overnight. Hard work, passion, risk- taking, integrity…all of this plays into the bigger picture. A lot of times, people don’t see that launching a business happens after many, many nights of burning the midnight oil after an already full day of work. A few takeaways from this awesome visit:
--
• Lead with passion. If your customers can FEEL you are passionate about what you do, they will keep coming back and will spread the word.
• You don’t know unless you ASK. Don’t assume the answer will be “no”…take a chance and just GO FOR IT!
• Take care of your people. When you put the time into developing relationships and taking care of your customers and employees, it will come back to you ten fold. Your biggest resource will ALWAYS be your RELATIONSHIPS. Never burn bridges.
• Be DYNAMIC and able to pivot quickly. One huge advantage to owning your own business is that you can make changes faster than the “big guys."
• Embrace the journey. Everything you do in your life is a stepping stone on the pathway that leads to your final destination.
• Above all…have balance. Be able to devote time to your family, yourself etc. and set work aside. Find what is YOUR driving factor and never deviate from it. No job is more important that this priority. If you keep that thought at the forefront of all you do, you will not be led astray.

Alex and Gary, THANK YOU for hosting us on our last business visit of the year. It was a pleasure to visit with you both and hear your story. CEO looks forward to visiting you again soon!
