Class Day: Zoom!
--
Today’s class centered around ‘The Art of Conversation.’ In our world's current environment of social distancing, mask wearing and virtual interactions, navigating how to introduce oneself and carry on a meaningful conversation is crucial to success! Given the current times, students must learn to navigate social interactions both in person and on a virtual platform.
--
CEO logged into their first online Zoom class this morning. This week, we discussed some ‘VIRTUAL PRO TIPS’ thanks to advice from CEO student alumni and Midland Institute for Entrepreneurship that helped our group prepare for a successful virtual meeting:
--
• Prepare your environment – eliminate distractions, pick a quiet space with a good background, use lighting to your advantage
• Dress to impress and be engaged
• Break out of your comfort zone
• Energy is contagious
• Always be on time and open to feedback
--
To begin class, students led a virtual team building activity using a game they had created on Quizlet. Following this, students watched ‘The Art of Conversation,’ a short video from Bob Schultz. Bob discussed the importance of a handshake and outlined a visualization technique from Dale Carnegie to help fuel a conversation.
--
Since we are not currently greeting each other with handshakes, this makes eye contact, saying your name clearly and the ability to hold a conversation even MORE important. Each person with which we interact is an opportunity—an opportunity to find a commonality or share a new experience. We may never realize the power that these small moments with a friend, stranger or contact can have on our lives!
